Founded in 1992 on the premise that precision water velocity measurement should be practical, affordable, and easy, SonTek/YSI today offers the widest variety of acoustic Doppler instrumentation on earth.

In July, 2001, YSI Incorporated of Yellow Springs, Ohio, acquired the assets of SonTek and formed a new company, SonTek/YSI, that operates as a wholly-owned subsidiary of YSI Incorporated. The synergistic relationship between SonTek and YSI greatly enhances the quality and breadth of service that is now available in the fields of water testing, water monitoring, and water velocity measurements.

YSI SonTek is also a member fo the YSI group and complete the water monitoring portfolio with instruments and systems for measuring water velocity, level and flow. YSI SonTek are recognised as world leaders in water velocity measurement. SonTek invented the Acoustic Doppler Velocimeter in 1993, and now offer a comprehensive range of water monitoring instruments including profilers, current meters, velocimeters, river surveyors and wave guage systems, with applications ranging from water monitoring in the laboratory to small streams, and from rivers and reservoirs to coastal and deep ocean installations.
