| The SonTek/YSI ADP
(ADCP) = Acoustic Doppler Profiler or acoustic Doppler Current Profiler,
is a high-performance water current profiler (water flow meter)
that is accurate, reliable, and easy to use. The ADP / ADCP
uses state-of-the-art transducers and electronics designed to reduce
side-lobe interference problems that plague other current profilers.
This allows the ADP / ACDP to make the very near-boundary
(surface or bottom) current measurements critical to shallow water
applications.

ADCP acoustic Doppler Current Profiler
SonTek/YSI ADP / ADCP 's belong to a group of instruments
known as acoustic doppler current profilers. Over the past
decade, current profilers have greatly expanded the ability to make
detailed current measurements in challenging field applications,
where the flow of water needs to be metered. Since its introduction
in 1994 as the first profiler designed specifically for shallow
water environments, the ADP ADCP has revolutionized the current
profiler market.
How the ADP ADCP (Water Flow Meter) Works
The ADP ADCP measures the velocity of water using a physical principle
called the Doppler shift. This states that if a source of sound
is moving relative to the receiver, the frequency of the sound at
the receiver is shifted from the transmit frequency.

range of configurations for applications including real-time current
monitoring, detailed current surveys, detailed river surveys (RiverSurveyor
System) and long-term autonomous deployments. The ADP ADCP uses

current measurements possible. With no moving parts, the ADP ADCP
is highly resistant to biofouling even in the most challenging environments.
